Placing the
Easy Boot Bare on your horse is a few simple
Steps:
1. Putting on the Easyboot Bare:
Fold the gaiter back
before fitting the boot over the toe. Pick up the horse’s leg and
support it between your knees (as if you were picking the hoof) so that
you can use two hands when applying the boot. Place the boot over the
horse’s toe and using a slight back and forth twisting motion, slide the
boot on the rest of the way. You can also put the foot down on the
ground and allow the horse to put weight into it. Don’t use the gaiter
to pull the boot on.
2. Using a rubber mallet: If you
are unable to get the boot to stretch enough to slide it on, a couple
taps with a rubber mallet at the toe area will usually do the trick.
3. A properly applied boot:
The inside back strap is designed to fit snugly, low around the
quarters, below the hairline, and below the heel bulbs. If the
horse has a very low heel, make sure the strap is not pulled out of its
position, or in any way allowed to abrade a low heel. Horses with low
heels may require the inside strap to be cut down a notch or two to
avoid chafing near the heel bulbs. Do not use the boot if any portion of
the plastic is above the hairline or touching sensitive skin. You will
need to slide your finger in the back of the boot to make sure the
backstrap is not touching sensitive skin
Fastening
the Easyboot Bare Gaiter:
Fasten the Gaiter next. Pull the top of the Gaiter tight around the
pastern. Fasten the hook and loop straps.

4.
Adjusting the
Easyboot Bare bungee system: The bungee system is designed to be
adjusted before the boot is applied to the hoof. You want the bungee
in the tightest position that will still allow you to apply the
boot. Start with the bungee in the loosest position (the boots come
standard in this configuration). After applying the Easyboot Bare
for the first time, try to slide the flat end of a flat
screwdriver between the hoof and the front of the boot. If you can
slide a flat screwdriver between the hoof and the front of the boot,
remove boot and adjust bungee on both sides of the boot to the next
notch. Continue process until you can no longer slide a flat
screwdriver between the hoof and the front of the boot. |
5.
Adjusting Bungee: Remove side screw. Slide metal plate into the
desired hole position. Tighten screw.
6. Removing the Easyboot Bare:
The easiest way
to remove a properly fitted Easyboot Bare is to use a flat-head
screwdriver. Unfasten the Gaiter straps. Next, place the screwdriver
inside the boot, between the boot and the hoof at the quarters. Wedge
the screwdriver under the hoof to pry the boot off. You may have to work
both sides of the boot for easier removal.
7. Adjusting the inside back
strap: The width and length of the hoof determines the correct size
Easyboot Bare, but the length of the inside strap can also be a factor.
If the strap in a properly sized boot is too long for your horse’s hoof
conformation, it can be replaced with a smaller strap—just remove the
strap and side clips with a screwdriver, and replace with the new strap
available from EasyCare.
8. Adjusting the side plates:
The points or
“teeth” on the side plates provide a positive grip to the hoof wall. A
less aggressive grip can be obtained by attaching the optional side clip
cover. When exposed, the points may mark the hoof wall, but will not
hurt the hoof. All boots come with side clip covers installed, but the
most secure fit will always be obtained by removing these covers.
