There is a small, but strong movement towards
barefoot horses. Barefoot is a natural, healthier way to maintain
hoof health. Toss the shoes! These multi purpose horse boots
are the Ultimate in Hoof protection.
These boots are a genuine alternative to metal
shoes. They are shock absorbing, and assist in the natural weight
bearing function of the hoof. Old Macs eliminate the stress of
constant nail holes and trauma caused by shoeing.
Old Macs are not recommended for riding if your
horse has shoes, but they CAN be used over the shoes for transportation
purposes.
No more worrying if your horse will lose a
shoe. Old Macs protect the hoof from bulb and tendon damage, hoof
wall and sole bruising. These are the OLD style Old Macs,
while supplies last.
|
Old Macs STAY on your
horse. They are marked "left" and "right". To place the
boot on, simply open the cover fully, pulling the cover all the way
forward. |
|
|
Pick up the hoof, and
place the it in the boot TOE first. Place the sole of the hoof
firmly in the boot, and pull the heel bulbs over the heel |
|
|
Wrap the webbing strap
around the pastern. This strap will start at one side of the
hoof. Bring it around the front of the hoof, to the other
side. Then place the strap through the ring and secure the
velcro. Make SURE you can slip a finger comfortably under the strap.
If you cannot, the strap is too tight. |
|
| Pull the sides of
the boots down over the hoof, ensuring they are straight. You
do so by pushing DOWN towards the rear of the hoof. Close the
velcro evenly. Then, fasten the strap. |
|
| When looking at the
boot from the front, the four rivets should be aligned down the
center of the hoof, in alignment with the pastern bone. |
|
Old Macs
come in NINE sizes to accomodate your horse's hooves.
See the
chart below to choose the correct size:
FIRST - Measure the LENGTH of your horse's hoof - from the toe
of the hoof to the buttress of heel (as indicated in the diagram above). On
the size chart below circle the measurement closest to your
horse's length .

Step 3 - From the two measurements circled on the size chart,
select the LARGEST CORRESPONDING OLD MAC'S SIZE . This is the correct Old
Mac's boot size for your horse. For example, if your horse measures 120mm in length, and 120mm in width, you would choose size 4.
If your horse has long/narrow hooves, inserts are
available. Inserts are designed to better accommodate excessively
long and narrow hooves. They are ONLY to be used in cases where
there is a possibility of the boot turning while on the hoof.
Placing the inserts on each side of the hoof (they come in a set of
four), enables the hoof to balance in the center of the boot. Order
below. Size small is used in conjunction with boot sizes 0-4.
Large, for boot sizes 5-8.
When putting on your Old Mac Boots:
Avoid pulling the internal
webbing strap too tight - this may cause rubbing.
Avoid securing the main cover unevenly or too high - this may cause
excessive movement.
Make sure the rear of the cover is not secured unevenly and/or too high Limited
quanties are kept here in stock. Please allow 2-3 weeks for
